Susie is a 20 year old singer-songwriter from Dublin, who names artists such as Lizzy McAlpine, Taylor Swift, The Crane Wives and Hozier as influences.
Narcissus Pool was written when she was sixteen years old and reflects on a friendship that had ended years prior. The song grieves a friendship the writer has outgrown as they grew apart.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I started writing songs when I was 16, a few months after we ended up in COVID lockdown for the first time, but I've loved to write and make music since I was a little kid. I don’t have a dog at the moment but I love them dearly, so I make do borrowing dogs from my neighbours and family for walks and the occasional cuddle. I have talked about these dogs with enough fondness and little enough context that I have accidentally convinced multiple people I know that I do, in fact, have one of my own. I’m a full-time college student when I’m not making music, studying Product Design.
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as a blend of folk, pop and rock, with an emphasis on the storytelling aspects of songwriting and exploring my own emotional vulnerabilities.
Who are your musical inspirations?
My biggest inspirations are Lizzy McAlpine, Maggie Rogers and Hozier, who are all fantastic songwriters whose vocals and production add so much to the stories they’re trying to tell. I also love Taylor Swift’s lyrical style and the anthemic quality of Chappell Roan.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
I think it was a One Direction concert in the Aviva Stadium, but I’m not totally sure of that. If it wasn’t them, it was a French ska-rock band called Babylon Circus, whose CD La Belle Etoile soundtracked many a summer holiday throughout my childhood.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Red by Taylor Swift on CD in 2012.
What’s your favourite song right now?
The Bog Bodies - Dorm Demo by Rabbitology.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Put on my red lipstick like a hero," from Never Going Home by Maggie Rogers.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Reckless Driving by Lizzy McAlpine and Ben Kessler.
Where can people find your music/more information?
