The 64-year-old, who oversees all of the Vatican's political and diplomatic activities as the Cardinal Secretary of State in the papal thriller, said working in Rome's Cinecittà Studios made the shoot - which was predominantly shot across two rooms - "feel intimate and dramatic in the appropriate way".
"You have the immensity of that space and then you have those tiny little rooms where so much of the subterfuge and intimate conversations take place," he added. "The contrast between those two things is really wonderful."
Award-winning filmmaker Edward Berger swept the boards at the 2022 Academy Awards with his ferocious anti-war epic, All Quiet on the Western Front, and the German-Austrian filmmaker's latest offering looks set to be another awards season winner he'll be accepting with grace.
Tucci commended the director for his "brilliant vision" and said that the highly-anticipated movie "never seems claustrophobic" but instead feels appropriately "intimate and dramatic".
Conclave, which also stars Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini, is widely tipped for success come awards season.
When asked how he feels to potentially be in the running for an Academy Award, Tucci joked: "It's extra awarding!"
"Yes, it's always nice when people respond positively to something that you've done," he added.
Conclave hits cinemas on Friday, 29 November.
