Speaking about their new song, Maciej says, "The songs were initially never planned for any vocals because they were so self-expressive and musically rich. This obviously created a lot of issues when trying out vocalists around Waterford.
"Generally, songs have clear verse/chorus structures. Well, our songs didn't have that as they were so abstract, this made it really difficult to find a solid vocal hook within the song structure."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Max: People would definitely describe me as a bit of a show man. I love hosting events; I love the attention and energy that grows organically when we put on shows. You can also say I’m definitely a big hustler. I always take the hard route to achieve what I need. Lastly, I'm definitely a bit crazy. I haven’t met an artist who’s 100% sane.
How would you describe your music?
Max: We are certainly good at making music not songs, so most of our work that we will be releasing can be described as a glimpse of our jamming sessions that we captured in a radio friendly cut. We cross genres, we break the rules. Gritty, thunderous down-tuned riffs and raw visceral energy is our way of saying f*** you to the world of dull radio jams .
Who are your musical inspirations?
Max: My musical taste changes more frequently that the Irish weather but always seems to fall back on Jack White. From his solo career to White Stripes, he never fails to get the inspiration flowing. Ozzy Osborne and Lemmy will always be my reference point to create unique energy no matter what music I create and my love for Arctic Monkeys and Avenged Sevenfold keeps the melodic side of inspiration going.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Alfonso: It was 2011 and I got my first ticket to go see Iron Maiden while betting on a ping pong match. I was young and recently into music so I was pretty excited about it. I couldn’t sleep the whole previous night to the concert and the next day I went as a good fanboy at 9am to do the line into the venue and waited there for the next 10 hours under the hot sun of Chile, drinking water and enjoying the freaky things that happens before a show over there. There was this man who put a whole monstrous drum kit at the sidewalk in front of all the people waiting for the concert and started playing metal songs for everyone, a pretty good drummer by the way. A few hours later a nun walked by the busy street full of metalheads, shouting at everyone saying how all of us were going straight to hell for making this kind of show happen. Everyone started booing her, of course.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Alfonso: Ummaguma by Pink Floyd, just incredible.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Max: "Even if you’re not with me, I’m with you" - Linkin Park.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Alfonso: Two years ago, I came across this song called La Petite Fille de la mer by a composer called Vangelis. It is a soundtrack for an animal kingdom tv series from France. The first time I heard that song was while I was working in a hospital, and it made me feel something that I've never felt before, It was like being fully aware of the fragility of this experience, it was sharp and scary but yet quite precious. Hope that when I die is while listening to that song hehe.
