Rising Irish star Ella Lily Hyland joins Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire in Netflix's new spy thriller series Black Doves, which launches on Thursday 5 December.
Carlow actress Hyland plays Williams, a freelance assassin, in the six part-series from writer-creator-executive-producer Joe Barton (Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project).
"She's dark and menacing but also very playful," said Hyland of Williams.
"A killer for hire and quite a mad character. Quirky and fun and curious and provocative - she loves winding people up.
"She's also meticulous about her job, having probably started doing it when she was a teenager. It's all she knows.
"She doesn't really get how to be a normal person and she's not very in touch with her empathy. She's very far away from anyone I know!"
Warning: spoiler alert!
Teeing up what's ahead, Netflix said: "Set against the backdrop of London at Christmas, Black Doves is a sharp, action-filled, and heartfelt story of friendship and sacrifice.
"It follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a quick-witted, down-to-earth, dedicated wife and mother - and professional spy.
"For 10 years, she's been passing on her politician husband's secrets to the shadowy organisation she works for: the Black Doves.
"When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (Sarah Lancashire), calls in Helen's old friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) to keep her safe.
"Together, Helen and Sam set off on a mission to investigate who killed Jason and why, leading them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy linking the murky London underworld to a looming geopolitical crisis."
The cast of Black Doves also includes Andrew Buchan, Omari Douglas, Kathryn Hunter, Sam Troughton, Gabrielle Creevy, Paapa Essiedu, Adeel Akhtar, Finn Bennett, Luther Ford, Adam Silver, Ken Nwosu, and Tracey Ullman.
Hyland's other credits include the tennis drama Fifteen-Love, the BBC's upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation Towards Zero, and the Lady Gregory play Grania at the Abbey Theatre.
