Tell us three things about yourself . . .
My name is Sam Clifford, I am a musician from Dublin. I have been singing since before I could talk and it's always been my number one passion. I began playing instruments and writing my own songs in my teens and I am now working in and studying the music industry full time, including trying to build a successful career as an artist, which has always been the ultimate goal.
How would you describe your music?
Overall, I feel I stretch a broad range of genres within my own music however in my personal opinion it could be summed up as Indie pop/rock with an element of folk too.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I take inspiration from a wide array of sources but the main ones that would stand out to me the most are, Hozier, David Keenan, Inhaler, Sam Fender and The Beatles.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
My first ever gig was a Sister Sledge concert when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I remember it so well; my auntie brought me. I just remember being so mesmerised by how amazing the band were live and how the whole show was put together.
What was the first record you ever bought?
My first record was Green Day’s American Idiot and I still love it to this day! It’s an absolute masterpiece with excellent song writing and really captivating arrangements in my opinion. It definitely played a very large role in shaping the artist that I am today.
What is your favourite song right now?
My favourite song right now has got to be Bug by Fontaines D.C. I think it’s really catchy and I love how Grian Chatten’s voice sounds in the mix.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you" - Stuck In The Middle With You by Stealers Wheel. I love that lyric a lot, I think it’s really clever and effective and I think the majority of people would recognise it.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would have to say Violet Hill by Coldplay, it’s one of my all-time favourite songs and one that I never seem to get bored of. It brings me on a little listening adventure and every time I listen to it I hear something new or interpret a lyric in a different way.
