DWTS' Aishah Akorede: 'My goal was to help women feel comfortable, confident and aware'

Former Miss Universe Ireland, Aishah Akorede, has said she's grateful to Dancing with the Stars for giving her a platform to support and inspire young women and admits she "feels blessed" to have made a positive impact while on the show.

In 2023, the 25-year-old Kildare woman, who bid farewell to the show on Sunday night alongside her pro partner Robert Rowiński, founded Recrowned Ireland, a non-profit social justice initiative that strives to make a lasting impact on key societal concerns.

Speaking to press after Sunday's elimination, Akorede said: "I get an awful lot of messages every single day from young women - and that's always been my goal. Since I've been 19 when I founded Recrowned Ireland, my goal was to help women feel comfortable, confident and aware," she said.

Akorede said she "feels blessed" to have made a positive impact while on the show, adding: "I feel like, by being on this show, and speaking about my life and journey, and by continuing to support other people's lives as well, I guess I've been able to fulfil, in my opinion, what my purpose is in life."

She continued: "I just feel blessed to be somebody that young women can say that they are impacted by."

It's back to the books for the model who is currently completing a Masters in Law - but there are plenty of opportunities heading her way.

When asked how she'll be filling the dancing void, she said: "I'm going to catch up on the past few weeks of course work that I've missed out on - and I'm going to start to write my dissertation," she said.

Akorede is no stranger to television having won the Discovery+ reality series Beauty and the Geek UK in 2022.

She added: "I've had a few opportunities in my emails that I've not been able to do because of this show. So, hopefully, I'll be able to catch up on those too."

"But as Robert said, I'll probably be looking for a presenter job," she laughed.
