Gene Hackman remembered by Morgan Freeman at Oscars

Morgan Freeman paid tribute to his late friend and co-star Gene Hackman on stage at the Oscars in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Hackman was found dead last week along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and dog at his home in New Mexico.

Speaking on stage at the Dolby Theatre, Freeman said: "I had the pleasure of working with Gene Hackman on two films, Unforgiven and Under Suspicion."

He described Hackman as a "generous performer" and said he "won the hearts of film lovers around the world".

Referencing Hackman and saying that he wanted to do "good work" in film, Freeman said: "You'll be remembered for that, and so much more."

The Oscars' In Memoriam segment then showed images of Maggie Smith, Joan Plowright, Donald Sutherland, Kris Kristofferson, Shelley Duvall, David Lynch, James Earl Jones, and Hackman, among others.
