Soul singer, songwriter and flautist Danny Groenland has released his new single, Runway, featuring Senita Appiakorang. We asked Danny the BIG questions . . .
The father of two has released two albums, two EPs and several collaborative singles, with his new album set for release on 25 April.
Senita is a performer and songwriter based in Dublin and is lead singer of neo-soul band Shookrah and Lakerama. She has written collaborated with Irish acts such as Brian Deady, Jack O'Rourke, Bantum, Le Galaxie and Daithí.
Speaking about the track, Danny says, "This is a song about life as an independent artist. The struggle to be heard. Working several jobs to pay the rent. The complicated relationship with social media. The anxiety around booking shows.
"The industry obsession with streaming numbers. Looking after our mental health. Maybe we'll never get lift-off, and that's ok. Because ultimately what this song is really about is the reason why we do any of this: our love of music."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I play trad flute and love a good session. I'm half Dutch. I'm a father to two amazing girls.
How would you describe your music?
Soul music for the feet and for the mind. These days I'm writing songs about social issues, but I still want people to feel good and to nod their head.

Marvin Gaye, Sade, D'Angelo, CSNY, The Beatles, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, The Bothy Band, Paul Simon, J Dilla . . . too many to mention!

Irish band Relish in the Ambassador. Brilliant singers, great songs, what a band!
What was the first record you ever bought?
Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book. A life-changing record. Such warmth and joy in every song.
What’s your favourite song right now?
I'm obsessed with the new Sault album. The last track Pray For Me is just gorgeous.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"War is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate". From Marvin Gaye's What's Going On in 1970. More profound and relevant today than ever,
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is an impossible question! I'll go for Sade's By Your Side. It never fails to comfort me when I'm down.
