What's on? Top 10 TV and streaming tips for Saturday

There's a Rod Stewart night on BBC Two, Spielberg's West Side Story, Ant and Dec return to Virgin Media, Ireland's Fittest Family continues - and there’s a massive amount of sport to be enjoyed . . .

Pick of the Day

Rod Stewart Night, 8.35pm, BBC Two

More than six hours of programming is dedicated to the much-loved singer Rod Stewart, beginning at 8.35pm with Rod Stewart at the BBC.

It's a tribute to the singer's lengthy career with a selection of performances and interviews at the BBC. Songs include Sailing, You're in My Heart, I Don't Want to Talk About It and the plagiaristic delights of Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?

Plus, Handbags and Gladrags from Rod's set at Glastonbury in 2002, his cover of Dorothy Fields' classic I'm in the Mood for Love and a song from his Radio 2 concert in May 2013

Then at 9.35pm there’s Rod Stewart at the BBC: Volume 2, a second collection of archive appearances by the singer, featuring clips of recent appearances and exclusive live shows, as well as rarely seen BBC performances of hits including Tonight's the Night, It's a Heartache, Have I Told You Lately and Sailing.

That’s followed at 10.35pm by Rod Stewart: Radio 2 in Concert, a 2013 performance at the BBC Radio Theatre by the singer, featuring hits including You Wear It Well, I Don't Want to Talk About It and Maggie May.

The Imagine special Rod Stewart: Can't Stop Me Now is at 11.35pm, where he invites Alan Yentob to his LA home to conduct an interview, in which Stewart looks back on a career spanning almost 50 years.

He discusses working with acts like the Steampacket and Jeff Beck in the 1960s and his time with the Faces, whose offstage antics became legendary - as did the frontman's affairs with a string of famous women.

His solo career propelled him to superstardom with songs such as Maggie May and Sailing, and while the 1980s proved to be less successful, his constant reinvention has given him a lasting career.

Having more recently become known as a singer of American standards, he talks about recording Time, his first album of new material in almost 20 years.

At 1am there’s Rod Stewart Live at Hyde Park, a concert by the singer that closed Radio 2's annual Festival in a Day, held in September 2015.

Featuring a selection of hits from his back catalogue including Angel, In a Broken Dream, The Killing of Georgie (Part I and II) as well as Faces classics including Ooh La La and blues standard Rollin' and Tumblin'.

Finally, at 2am there’s Rod's Christmas Concert: Old Grey Whistle Test, a concert at London's Olympia recorded on Christmas Eve 1976, featuring performances of Maggie May, Sailing, Tonight's the Night and I Don't Want to Talk About It.

With a introduction to the original programme by Bob Harris.
