Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I love sushi. My favourite director is David Lean, and I'm left-handed.
How would you describe your music?
Dark and brooding yet soft and soothing.
Who are your musical inspirations?
The birds, the bees, barking dogs, purring cats, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, Paul Robeson, Tom Waits, Vaughn Williams, Elvis, Beatles, and mainly 80s music.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
There were lots of gigs in the school hall with various bands performing, but the first outdoor festival vibe was Simple Minds at the RDS circa 1988. I think Texas was supporting. Lots of cans of Harp lager. Ouch!
What was the first record you ever bought?
It was a bootleg tape of Sisters of Mercy at Drogheda Boxing Club. The quality was not good, needless to say, but it got played till it snapped.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Minari soundtrack - Jacob and the Stone. It’s being overused in memes, but it is pure tranquil bliss.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"I did my best, it wasn't much, I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch, I've told the truth, I didn't come here to fool you, And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of Song, With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah" - Tower of Song by Leonard Cohen.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
When the Music’s Over by The Doors. Outside of it being a masterpiece, It’s almost eleven minutes long, so you’ve got bang for your buck, and it’s filled with all human emotions with several different music styles wrapped up in a rock n roll opera.
