Donegal band Silver Winged They Fly have released their second single, Future Changes The Past. We asked lead singer Ruairí Friel the BIG questions . . .
The band released their debut single, Cold in the Soul, last in August and speaking about the new song, singer Ruairi Friel says, "The future changes the past because what happens in from here on changes what the past has led to.
"This led to thoughts about what that means for issues like the mental health crisis, environmental crisis and the rise of nationalist politics. We're living in dark times with a lot of fear, there are choices there to made individually and collectively that decide where that leads to."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I'm a Dad of two wee daughters. They are everything. I spend half my time being certain about things and the other half being full of dread about the future. I can cook, but can’t bake?
How would you describe your music?
That dread I mentioned, that’s probably in the lyrics. Then I play some guitars. Maybe some synth. I ask my actually talented wife for help and she always adds something beautiful. Then I take it over to my friend Orri and he fixes everything and adds nice things. It’s a blend of all that but essentially rock/synth/dread.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Ryuichi Sakamoto, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, I just spent some time at the Ennis Trad Festival in the company of some amazing traditional musicians. My brother-in-law Michael - they all inspire me no end.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
The honest answer to this I think is Pat Fallon the magician. That was as a child. The first music concert was the reformed Thin Lizzy at the Olympia when I was about 15. Went through a big Lizzy phase as a teenager.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Two cassettes on a shopping trip into Derry. One was Robert Miles - Children; and the other was Will Smith - Men in Black (the lead single from the film soundtrack). Two stone cold classics.
What’s your favourite song right now?
My favourite song right now is Hashtag from Gillian Welch and David Rawlings’ new record.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Every Grain of Sand by Dylan.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Something long. Something I don’t understand. So, it would last longer before it drove me insane. Let’s say one of Rachmaninov’s symphonies. His second symphony. You’d get years out of one of them and I find his music incredibly moving. I don’t know if that’s cheating. On second thoughts maybe How Far I’ll Go from the Moana soundtrack would be a wiser choice, as the girls love it.
Where can people find your music/more information?
