The actor and producer, best known for playing Buster Brady in Mrs Brown's Boys on stage and screen, is following in the footsteps of his aunt and co-star Eilish O'Carroll, who took part in the show in 2019; and former co-star Rory Cowan, who took part in Dancing with the Stars earlier this year.
Speaking about his new challenge, Danny O'Carroll said: "I've wanted to do Dancing with the Stars for the last four years, but I have always been touring the UK with Mrs Brown's Boys in January, so it just wasn't possible.
"But this year, we're touring in Ireland for the first time in over 12 years, and I can commute to get the rehearsals in, so it's working out really well. I'm delighted to finally be able to do it!"
On the encouragement he has received from Mrs Brown's Boys cast members, he added: "I'm really taken aback at how much everybody has been behind me. My aunt Eilish is begging me to go as far as I can for her.
"I want to do the best I can. I'm not a dancer, so I'm well out of my comfort zone, but I'm going to try to do whatever I can to get to the final... I'm going to give it socks!"
On Monday, model and former Miss Universe Ireland Aishah Akorede was announced as the first contestant for the new series. The nine remaining celebrity contestants will be announced in the coming days.
Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy are back as hosts, and two-time Dancing with the Stars winner and professional dancer Karen Byrne joins the returning Loraine Barry, Brian Redmond, and Arthur Gourounlian on the judging panel.
