Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) and Saoirse Ronan (Blitz, The Outrun) missed out on nominations in the film acting categories.
Despite its success at the British Independent Film Awards at the weekend, the music biopic Kneecap missed out on a nomination in the Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language category.
US actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut announced the shortlist live on Monday, which saw Emilia Pérez – which is about a Mexican drug lord who changes gender – score 10 nominations and Ariana Grande land her first Golden Globe nod.
The actress and singer received the nomination for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for her role as Glinda in the film version of the hit Broadway and West End musical Wicked and will compete against Selena Gomez and her co-star Zoe Saldana for Emilia Pérez.

Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo also received a nod for Wicked in the Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical category, alongside Zendaya for the romantic-sports film Challengers, Karla Sofia Gascon for Emilia Pérez, Demi Moore for horror film The Substance, and a breakout performance from Mikey Madison for Anora.
The Brutalist, starring Oscar-winner Adrien Brody as a Hungarian Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust and emigrates to the United States scored seven nominations, followed by papal drama Conclave with six nods.

Anora, a film about a young sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, scored five nominations, alongside Demi Moore's horror The Substance.
In the television categories, the comedy-drama The Bear leads with five nominations, followed by Shōgun and Only Murderers in the Building with four each.
The awards will take place on Sunday 5 January at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The winners are chosen by 334 entertainment journalists from 85 countries.
