Daniel O'Donnell reveals the song he wishes he could sing

"I could only do it the way that I could do it," he said of his 40-year-plus career.

"I was never going to be an opera singer. I can sing, and I enjoy singing immensely, and I enjoy singing the songs I sing. There are songs that I love that I wouldn't even attempt.

"Somebody said to me, 'Is there a song that you would love to have recorded that you couldn't record?' And I said, 'The only song that I would love to have recorded that I couldn't record was [The Drifters'] Saturday Night at the Movies'. And the reason for that is that I can't go into falsetto!

"I can't get that high and there's a note in that, you know, it goes away up high. And that's a disappointment for me because every time I'm somewhere that Saturday Night at the Movies starts, I just love it."

"But now you could do that with auto-tuning or AI," offered D'Arcy.

"Ah well listen, sure, what you never had you won't miss!" O'Donnell replied.

"I'm not going to start AI or whatever it is. That sounds like what they used to do [for the cattle]! The AI man used to come to the house..."

"That's a different thing completely!" laughed D'Arcy.

"But sure, it's the same thing!" the singer opined.

The Donegal man has just released the compilation Through the Years: The Very Best of Daniel O'Donnell.

"What I do say to people, young people, that are starting out [is] there's always room for yourself," he continued.

"There's no room for another me. Do you know what I mean? But there's plenty of room for you as you are - and sing the way you came into the world and whatever way your voice is.

"You know, you're never going to be as good as the person you admire, even if technically you're better."
