The song is about Sol's true life story of falling in love and being excited for where the relationship might be heading.
"Summer Days s about when I met my now girlfriend for the first time in the summer," he says. "It tells the story of how we came to be together. I’d never really written love songs before so this was all new to me, but it came from a true place and it means a lot to me."
Bilk released their first EP Chipped Out in 2019, followed by Allow It in 2021 and their self-titled debut album in 2023.
Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll will be released in February.
Bilk play Winthrop Avenue, Cork on 26 March 2025, Róisín Dubh, Galway on 27 March, Oh Yeah Music Centre, Belfast on March 28 and The Workman’s Club, Dublin on 29 March.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
My names Sol, I’m the frontman of a band called bilk and I’ve got a big nose.
How would you describe your music?
We make rock and roll but our music has different influences across it, like indie, punk, rap, blues and all that. I’m just into music in general and I write about life and what’s going on in my world.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Oasis, Nirvana, The Smiths, The Libertines, Eminem, The Streets. And Crazy Frog.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
I think it was a Smiths tribute band at the 100 Club in London. The bloke pretending to be Morrissey jumped on the piano and from that moment I knew I wanted to be a frontman. A few years later we played there and during the last song, we got a stage invasion. The security couldn’t do anything about it but let us and the people there have our fun. They were cool about it though.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I can’t remember but probably Nevermind by Nirvana. That album made me pick up a guitar.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Summer Days by Bilk.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Oh, I’m a gummy bear yes I’m a gummy bear."
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Sounds like torture. Maybe that song, "Dance Monkey. Dance monkey dance monkey dance monkey oh oh oh." I’d end up either listening to it so much I end up figuring out why people actually enjoy that s***.
Where can people find your music/more information?
At @bilkbandpage on Instagram, Twitter, Spotify, Apple Music and all the streaming platforms and social media platforms and that. Apart from TikTok we don’t do that anymore. Thank god.
