MasterChef: The Professionals, 9.00pm, BBC One

Things are really hotting-up in the kitchen as the last eight chefs compete in the semi-finals.

Their first challenge tests their ability to minimise food waste by choosing one ingredient and serving it in as many ways as they can.

The judges - including Monica Galetti (above) - will then pick the contestants worthy of going straight through to the next round, leaving the others to face an invention test using a mystery seafood ingredient.

Artist of the Year: Masterclass, 6.00pm, Sky Arts

Following on from the success of Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year: Masterclass will feature live tutorials from some familiar faces from both shows as they demonstrate easy-to learn techniques for budding artists at home.

Series judge, Tai-Shan Schierenberg (above), will also take to his easel to teach masterclasses of his own, showing the nation how he approaches an all-important portrait.

Each episode will focus on a different subject or technique to help audiences understand the basics of painting and drawing, with classes covering everything from exploring tone and Alla Prima painting to composing a landscape, botanical flowers and even dog portraiture.

Chernobyl, My Promised Land, 9.00pm, Sky Documentaries

This documentary follows the story of Vadym, a charismatic inventor and factory owner who lives in the small village of Dyktalky, near Chernobyl.

Vadym moved to the region after the Russian invasion of Donbass in 2014.

He set up his factory which immediately put him on a collision course with some of the locals -most notably the village Mayor and her husband.

Hostilities reached their height when Vadym declared his intention to run in the mayoral elections.

Then, in 2022, the Russians invaded Ukraine and everything changed.

Renaissance - The Blood and the Beauty, 9.00pm, BBC Two

This is a dramatised documentary telling the story of how some of the greatest art works of all time were born of war and bloodshed, as rival artists Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael competed to craft beauty from chaos.

The first episode shows Michelangelo Buonarroti and Leonardo da Vinci struggling to find work and navigate the whims of patrons in Renaissance Florence.

The young Michelangelo is lucky enough to catch the eye of the de facto ruler of Florence Lorenzo de' Medici, while Leonardo offers his services to Ludovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan and a violent and dangerous man.

Inside Barlinnie, 11.05pm, BBC Two

Here's a look at the Glasgow prison's recent past and how it has shaped the approach to modern jails and rehabilitation in Scotland.

The documentary also explores the lives of current prisoners and staff and delving into a dark history of hangings, riots and escapes that have shaped the prison for more than a century.

While the violence in the prison has reduced drastically since the late 1980s, there are still incidents to contend with as inmate Kieran deals with the aftermath of assaulting a prison officer and his cellmate.

Person of Interest, 11.05pm, Channel 4

Not to be confused with the US sci-fi series of the same name featuring Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel and Taraji P Henson.

Starring Asim Chaudhry and Craig Parkinson , it’s a one-off drama following a hard night for a Muslim minicab driver in London, dominated by irritating passengers and horrific stories on the news.

At midnight, he has a strange encounter with a mysterious surveillance officer who appears in his car.

As the night wears on, he becomes consumed with paranoia that his wife has turned on him, but the truth could be far stranger.
