Dunne was on the show to discuss her life in five songs when talk turned to future big-screen projects and she shared the rom-com news.
"It was a story that just came to me instinctively a few years ago. It was during lockdown," she explained.
"So yeah, I'm hoping to get that going. We're just in the process of getting the funding and production stuff all set up for next year."
"We're just trying to pull the exact right pair [of actors] together for it," Dunne continued.
"Are you not going to be in it, no?" asked the host.
"I think I'm going to try and direct, which is a little bit nerve-wracking," Dunne replied.
"But I directed a little proof concept about it and I think because of the style we're doing, I think it's safer for me to direct rather than be in it because it's just trying to be in two places at once for my first-ever directing thing would be a little bit tough."
Dunne made her feature screenwriting debut with the award-winning Herself, in which she also starred.
She will next be seen opposite Hazel Doupe and Peter Coonan in the psychological drama Kathleen Is Here, which opens on Friday 18 October and marks the feature directorial debut of fellow actor Eva Birthistle.
Dunne is also part of the cast of the Cillian Murphy-starring Claire Keegan adaptation Small Things Like These, which opens on Friday 1 November.
