Behind the music - Parnell March

Irish Australian electronica producer and performer Parnell March has released his new EP, Back Bar Grooves, which was inspired by his time working in Lavery's Bar in Belfast. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

Back Bar Grooves incorporates obscure samples from early 90s dance music while blending modern electronic melody and percussion with nods to contemporary producers such as Four Tet.

Twice nominated for the West Australian Song of the Year award, Parnell March is based in Perth and has been releasing music since 2014.

Back Bar Grooves is his first new music since his album, Ozone Parade, in 2021

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I grew up in rural South Armagh. I’ve seen a UFO. I swapped Ireland for the beach in Western Australia 20 years ago, but I still can’t surf.

How would you describe your music?

Who are your musical inspirations?

So many… The Stone Roses, Four Tet, Air, Jon Hopkins, and Sufjan Stevens.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

U2 of course. My mum took me to see them when I was still in primary school.

Either U2’s Achtung Baby or Madonna’s Greatest Hits.
