Last year, the band released their fourth album, entitled Romance, which has been warmly welcomed by fans around the world.

It followed the acclaimed 2022 album Skinty Fia, which reached number one in the Irish and UK album charts.

Fontaines D.C., are Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass), and Tom Coll (drums).

The band are currently touring internationally, and could not attend last night’s award ceremony, which saw British artist Charli XCX win five awards following the success of her 2024 album 'Brat'.

Charli XCX won album of the year as well as best artist

Fontaines D.C. are due to return to Europe for further dates in June.

Meanwhile, there were further Irish dedications, after US star Chappell Roan won international artist of the year, with her song Good Luck, Babe! named international song of the year.

While not in attendance at the awards, she left a pre-recorded message that dedicated award to Irish singer Sinead O'Connor, trans artists, drag queens, fashion students and sex workers.

"I'm so sorry that I cannot be there tonight to celebrate with you, but thank you to the Brits for honouring me and recognising me", she said in a video acceptance speech.

"Thank you to my team and my fans all over the world, but especially to my UK girlies, you have been there since day one, and Chappell Roan was born through experiencing queer joy.

The late Sinéad O'Connor

"It's so special, I had to write an entire album about it.

"I dedicate this to trans artists, to drag queens, to fashion students, sex workers and Sinead O'Connor.

"Because of all those people, they have laid the groundwork for me to be here today."
