Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I was born in and escaped from the former Soviet Union. I'm a single dad to six-year-old identical twin daughters. I've been writing, recording and releasing records since the late 1980s.

How would you describe your music?

Indie rock: extremely catchy, short and slightly twisted songs.

Who are your musical inspirations?

The Beatles, The Kinks, The Breeders, Guided by Voices, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Squeeze, Liz Phair.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Aerosmith.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Rubber Soul by The Beatles.

What's your favourite song right now?

I Only Want To Be With You - Dusty Springfield.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"We'll sit for days/talk about things important to us like whatever/we'll defuse bombs walk marathons/take on whatever" - Whatever Together by Grandaddy.
