Fresh from their IFTA wins, the award-winning Irish-language film Kneecap and The Outrun star Saoirse Ronan are among the nominees at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Awards in London tonight.
Kneecap, writer-director Rich Peppiatt's critically acclaimed biopic of the Belfast rap trio of the same name, has six nominations: Outstanding Debut, Original Screenplay, Casting, Film Not in the English Language, Editing, and Outstanding British Film.
The box office hit includes Belfast's Fine Point Films, Dublin's Wildcard Distribution, London's Mother Tongues Films, and the British Film Institute (BFI) among its producers.
Among the organisations that funded the film are: Northern Ireland Screen, the Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, and TG4.
IFTA winner Saoirse Ronan has again been nominated for Leading Actress for her role in the addiction recovery drama The Outrun, alongside Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Hard Truths, Demi Moore for The Substance, Mikey Madison for Anora, and Karla Sofía Gascón for Emilia Pérez.
Based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by Amy Liptrot, The Outrun tells the story of Rona, a young woman who returns to the Orkney Islands after years of partying in London and a spell in rehab for alcoholism. The Outrun has also been nominated in the Outstanding British Film category.
