Irish actress Alisha Weir has said it would be "amazing" to star in the next instalment of the film adaptation of Wicked as she addressed rumours about her taking on the role of Dorothy.
Part one of Wicked starring Oscar-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo and Grammy-winning pop star Ariana Grande was released last year, with the second half of the two-part film expected in November.
She added, "I am such a big fan of Wicked and I saw the first one with my family. I am such a big fan of Jon Chu's work and Ariana Grande and Cynthia but that would be pretty cool."
15-year-old Weir starred in 2024 vampire horror Abigail and 2022's Matilda The Musical and she was nominated in the lead actress in film category for her starring role in Abigail at the IFTAs but was unlucky on the night.
However, in one of the night’s loveliest moments, Saoirse Ronan brought Weir up on stage with her as she accepted her second award of the evening for her role in The Out Run.
"I only met Alisha tonight," said Ronan. "And I brought her on stage because I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of her."
Reflecting on being surrounded by top Irish talent at the IFTAs, Weir told the PA news agency, "It feels so incredible… I am so honoured to be in the same room as so many incredible people from the film industry that I look up to and aspire to be like when I’m older. And especially, it’s such an incredible Irish event that celebrates the Irish in the film industry, which is just incredible."
