Eurosong winner EMMY had booked Saturday flight home

The 24-year-old's song - co-written with her brother Erlend Guttulsrud Kristiansen and the Irish songwriter Larissa Tormey - topped the poll in the public vote and National Jury vote last Friday night - and for EMMY it is still sinking in that she will be representing Ireland in Basel, Switzerland in May.

"First, we need to understand that this is actually happening - and then rehearse!" EMMY said as she looks forward to becoming part of Irish Eurovision history.

EMMY is "so happy and so honoured" to be representing Ireland at Eurovision

"We were so, so surprised," she continued. "I did not expect that. We booked a flight home - on Saturday!"

Describing herself as "so happy and so honoured" to be representing Ireland, EMMY is thrilled by the warmth towards her already.

"It meant so, so much to get the 12 points from the public [vote]," she said. "You know, it wouldn't feel the same if not. We have met so many lovely people. They are so supportive and we are so, so grateful."

When asked what she would say to people who contend that Ireland should send an Irish singer to Eurovision, EMMY offered: "This is the Eurovision Song Contest. I don't think it's about me. It's about the song, and the song is partly Irish because of the songwriter.

"And also, I think it's more about what song and what message the people of a country want to send, rather than who I am as a singer. Since the song was partly Irish, it was very natural for us to send it there."

Having never visited Ireland before Eurosong, EMMY wants to make up for lost time.

"We'll probably come back, you know?" she laughed mischievously. "I don't know much yet, but I probably will come back!"
