The trailer for the acclaimed Irish film September Says has been released ahead of the unsettling drama's arrival in cinemas this month.
September Says is the feature debut of actor turned director Ariane Labed and is based on the Daisy Johnson novel Sisters.
The film, which received its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last May, stars Mia Tharia (The Listeners, Phoenix Rise) as July, Rakhee Thakrar (Wonka, Sex Education) as Sheela, and introduces Pascale Kann as September.
The synopsis reads: "Delving into the dark complexities of sisterhood, adolescence, and femininity, September Says is the haunting feature filmmaking debut from Ariane Labed.
"Teenage sisters September and July share an intensely close but unsettling bond, speaking their own secret language and keeping the outside world at a distance.
"When a mysterious incident at school results in September's suspension, their mother Sheela, deeply concerned about the sisters' troubling behaviour, takes them to an isolated house on the windswept Irish coast.
"However, the secluded setting only amplifies the family's tensions as July begins to challenge September's increasingly sadistic commands."
The Dublin-based Sackville Film and Television Productions and Element Pictures are among the producers of September Says, which is backed by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.
September Says is released in cinemas on Friday 21 February.
