EastEnders has announced that it will air a live episode on Thursday 20 February as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, promising fans "a first-of-its-kind" twist.
EastEnders will mark its iconic start date - 19 February 1985 - with a special hour-long episode on Wednesday 19 February that will whet fans' appetites for the live episode on Thursday 20 February.
The BBC said: "Following its hour-long episode that transmits on the actual anniversary (19th February), for the first time in the show's history, the EastEnders viewers will be able to cast their vote on Denise's potential suitor. Denise's decision. You choose. Should her future be with Jack or Ravi?"
The result will be revealed in the live episode on Thursday 20 February - a night that "is set to change Walford, and the lives of those who live in it, forever".
"To access the vote, viewers must have a BBC Account," the BBC explained.
"You can register for an account at BBC.co.uk/account, on or before 19th February 2025. The vote will officially open at 20:30 on Wednesday 19th February at BBC.co.uk/EastEnders and will close at 19:10 on Thursday 20th February so the result can be incorporated into its live episode, which will broadcast at 19:30 from BBC Elstree Centre that evening.
"Once all votes have been cast, the vote will be independently verified and handed to the EastEnders Executive Producer, Chris Clenshaw, just before the live show. In that short amount of time, the cast and crew will disregard the losing script and quickly prepare to depict the drama on screen that reflects the decision chosen by the viewers.
"As well as playing matchmaker for Denise, viewers will also have an extra treat when they cast their vote, as they will be given the opportunity to make another decision that will go down in Walford's history."
