What's on? Top 10 TV and streaming tips for Monday

Alison Hammond heads to Florida, Carla O'Brien is back with CrimeCall, Stanley Tucci heads to Venice for a feed, Vótáil covers the 2011 General Election, and there’s The Tattooist's Son: Journey to Auschwitz . . .

Pick of the Day

Alison Hammond's Florida Unpacked, 6.30pm, BBC Two

This 15-part new show should be fun.

The effortlessly effervescent Alison Hammond and her son Aidan embark on a budget tour of the Sunshine State, heading off the beaten track to visit its hidden gems.

Alison and Aidan show how to live the American dream on wheels, hitting the road in a camper van to explore Florida’s oldest tourist hotspot - Silver Springs State Park.

Renting a motorhome abroad might sound like a recipe for chaos, but Alison shows how it can be surprisingly simple and better value than a hotel.

After kayaking across the dazzlingly clear waters they soak up the secret retro charm of 1950s and '60s drive-in culture and take a peek behind the curtain at a buzzing Ocala drive-in cinema.

Nice work etc.

New or Returning Shows

The Tattooist's Son: Journey to Auschwitz, 9.00pm, Sky History

Streaming on NOW

Filmed in Australia, Slovakia, and Poland, this intimate documentary follows Gary Solokov, the only son of Gita and Lali Sokolov (one of the real-life tattooists of Auschwitz).

Their incredible love story began when they met and fell in love as Slovakian Jewish prisoners at Auschwitz Concentration Camp, where the Nazi regime systematically murdered over a million Jews.

The film will chart Gary’s first visit to this most notorious German death camp.

He enters the camp through the infamous Arbeit Macht Frei gatehouse, from where he will begin to explore the horrors confronted by his parents.

It's that crime time of the month again!

Carla O'Brien presents appeals for help from the public in solving crimes, featuring reconstructions, CCTV footage, news features and a panel of police advisers taking calls.

Following on from last week’s season one finale, it’s straight into season two of this engaging series about Italian grub as American actor Stanley Tucci continues his travels across the peninsula to discover the secrets and delights of the country's regional cuisines.

This episode sees him visit the 'floating city' of Venice, once the centre of a world-trading empire - and still one of the most remarkable (and beautiful) places on the planet.

Tucci explores the ingenuity of the Venetians, who have embraced the unexpected delights and challenges of the lagoon, reaping the benefits of Veneto's fertile land.

Veneto has a fascinating food culture due to its aquatic environment, and the various influences from around the world throughout its vast and textured history.

First Communion, 10.40pm, BBC One

This documentary follows four Catholic families as they prepare for their children's first Holy Communion.

Tia in West Belfast is hoping for a First Communion day party fit for a princess and seven-year-old Seren in Formby is looking forward to a day of much-loved family traditions.

Niall in Lurgan has spent weeks preparing for the big day in school and Magdalena from London has a large family who have often struggled with their faith.

Don’t Miss

This week’s episode takes a look at the 'earthquake election' in 2011 and how, after the crash, the guarantee and the bailout, the country was on its knees and the electorate was out for blood.

The programme explores how it was never a question of simply losing for Fianna Fáil, it was a question of the party’s survival.

They had been the dominant force in Irish politics since 1932 and found themselves in real danger of being voted out of existence.

The Usual Suspects, 9.30pm, TG4

Bryan Singer's Oscar-winning thriller stars Gabriel Byrne (below), Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Stephen Baldwin, Pete Postlethwaite, Chazz Palminteri and Suzy Amis.

Not great for a second viewing, given its rather revelatory ending – but it is an excellent yarn.

Five criminals are brought together by a police line-up and decide to join forces to pull off one more big job.

Then they discover that their meeting was not a coincidence and that a mysterious crime lord has plans for them.

The Windermere Children, 10.30pm, BBC Four

Fact-based drama, starring Thomas Kretschmann, Romola Garai (below), Tim McInnerny and Iain Glen.

In August 1945, psychologist Oscar Friedmann and his team of counsellors look after child survivors of the Holocaust who were sent to England’s Lake District to begin new lives.

Friedmann and art therapist Marie Paneth, philanthropist Leonard Montefiore and sports coach Jock Lawrence have four months to help the children reclaim their lives, while waiting for news of their loved ones.

Followed at midnight by The Windermere Children: In Their Own Words.

Reflecting on the survivors' lives after Windermere, the film includes home-movie footage and footage of their annual reunions.

Jamie's £1 Wonders & Money-Saving Meals, 8.00pm, Channel 4

This week Jamie Oliver (below) cooks mushroom soup using up discounted veg that's on the turn, followed by a low-cost cheesy air-fryer soda bread that a family can feast on for under a fiver.

He shows how useful a bit of planning can be, making ingredients stretch over two meals by serving up ham hock and parsley sauce, then turning the leftovers into teardrop gnocchi later in the week.

Holocaust: Night Will Fall, 12.00am, Channel 4

In 1945, the Ministry of Information's Sidney Bernstein was commissioned to make a documentary that would provide undeniable evidence of the Nazis' crimes.

He assembled a team of filmmakers including Alfred Hitchcock to record the true horror of the concentration camps, but despite initial government support, the project was deemed too politically sensitive and never broadcast.

Now, 70 years later, Bernstein's film has been restored and completed by the Imperial War Museum, and this programme tells the story of its creation.

Narrated by Helena Bonham Carter.
