Irish eyes on BAFTA nominations at midday

Irish eyes are on the nominees for this year's British Academy Film Awards, the BAFTAs, which will be announced in London at midday.

The acclaimed music biopic Kneecap has been longlisted in seven categories, while the Irish-produced film The Apprentice has appeared in six categories ahead of the nominations.

Kneecap and The Apprentice are among 10 films longlisted for Best Film, including Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, The Substance, and Wicked.

Kneecap has also been longlisted for Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, Film Not in the English Language, Original Screenplay, Casting, and Editing. Kneecap was made with support from the British Film Institute.

Sebastian Stan has been longlisted in the Leading Actor category for his performance as Donald Trump in The Apprentice from the Irish production company Tailored Films.

Saoirse Ronan has been longlisted for Leading Actress for her role in the drama The Outrun, which has also been longlisted for Outstanding British Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score.

Ronan's wartime drama Blitz has also been longlisted in seven categories including Outstanding British Film and Original Score.

The Irish film Clodagh, directed by Portia A. Buckley and starring Bríd Ní Neachtain and Katelyn Rose Downey, has been longlisted for Best British Short Film.

The Spanish-language musical thriller Emilia Pérez starring Selena Gomez leads the BAFTAs longlist with nods in 15 categories, while the Vatican thriller Conclave has been longlisted in 14 categories.

The 2025 BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 16 February.
