Irish stars among Screen Actors Guild Awards nominees in US

Irish actors Nicola Coughlan, Colin Farrell, and Andrew Scott are among the nominees for the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in the US.

Coughlan is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work on Bridgerton.

Taking to Instagram shortly after the announcement, Coughlan said she "was absolutely in shock" and "so honoured".

Farrell and Scott are both nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series category for their performances in The Penguin and Ripley, respectively.

On Sunday night, Farrell was among the Golden Globe winners for his performance in the DC Comics adaptation. Scott was also nominated in the same Globes category.

In the SAG film categories, there was disappointment for Cillian Murphy (Small Things Like These) and Saoirse Ronan (Blitz, The Outrun).

The nominations for the 31st annual awards, a bellwether for the Oscars in the film categories, were due to be announced on Wednesday morning during a live Netflix-streamed event hosted by actors Joey King and Cooper Koch.

However, the ceremony was cancelled and the nominations instead revealed in a press release and on the awards' website because of the "wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles", a spokesperson said.

The Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-starring musical Wicked and the historical drama series Shōgun lead this year's SAG Awards nominations with five apiece.
